Microsoft Lumia (formerly Nokia Lumia) is a series of smartphones designed and marketed by Microsoft running the Windows Phone operating system, aiming to compete with iOS and Android devices. It was originally developed by Nokia until Microsoft bought in 2014 the division of Nokia mobile devices and acquired the Lumia brand. The series was introduced in November 2011 as a result of long-term partnership between Nokia and Microsoft. These phones are Windows Phone. In October 2014, it was announced that the name of the Nokia Lumia series would hereafter Microsoft Lumia, which meant the disappearance of the Nokia brand in this range. Since Microsoft announced the purchase of the mobile phone division of Nokia, so far its biggest Windows Phone partner, they began to shuffle the different possibilities for a change of name of the Lumia range. Microsoft finally decided to maintain the Lumia brand and renamed Microsoft Lumia. The new name came gradually to the different markets and was disappearing form the Nokia brand. The first phone from Nokia Lumia range without the brand was the Lumia 535, launched in November 2014.
